There are lots of websites offering ‘Unbreakable Glasses’ or ‘Virtually Unbreakable Glasses’ but are these claims really true? What happens if they do break? Posh Plastics is the only online retailer that not only claims to sell unbrekable glasses, but can also back that up with footage of Richard Hammond trying to out plastic glasses with a lump hammer and a pneumatic drill. If that is not enough to convince you then we even offer a 3 year guarantee that our glasses will not break, crack or shatter with normal use. Even though the glasses stood up to the lump hammer and pneumatic drill, this doesn’t fall within the terms of ‘normal use’.
The term ‘virtually unbreakable’ came in with acrylic plastic glasses. At the time, this was the only alternative to glass glasses and, as they didn’t break when the hit the floor, they were considered ‘virtually unbreakable’. With the advent of polycarbonate glassware production, acrylic glasses were soon shown to be not-that-unbreakable after all. Hit one with a hammer and it will break. Put boiling water in an acrylic glass or run it through the dishwasher and an acrylic glass with crack or fracture. After a summer of use in sunlight, an acrylic glass will cloud and become brittle.
Polycarbonate plastic glasses are much more durable. There is a difference between cheap, low-quality polycarbonate plastic glasses and good quality polycarbonate glasses. This is due to two factors; the thickness of the polycarbonate and the length/temperature of the baking process during production. As our Strahl glassware is made to feel like glass, they are made up with around twice the amount of polycarbonate as cheaper plastic glasses. Strahl glasses are baked for longer and hotter temperatures than any other manufacturer of plastic glassware, giving the glasses unrivalled brilliance and durability.
The pleasure of using our plastic glasses and the admiration of guests make our superior glassware an excellent choice.
